Mr sandeep gosain (delhi)'s letter to mr. LAL JI SINGH (Vice Chancellor, BHU) about Dr. omsankar

To,
Mr. Lalji Singh, Vice Chancellor, BHU
Dear and respected Sir,
The objective of writing this letter is not only to thank a doctor for saving the life of my brother but is also to thank almighty for sending such a noble soul on earth for the welfare of mankind. I am writing this letter to express my deep gratitude for the superior care taken by a doctor and his entire team while my brother was undergoing treatment for his heart ailment at Banaras Hindu Universit,y recently.
Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi is a renowned institute for not only Medical but other fraternities as well. It not only caters to the patients of Banaras but also of other states and towns of UP and here works a pure and noble soul called Dr. Om Shankar, in Cardiology department. Dr. Om Shankar working in the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi is making a praiseworthy contribution by means of saving human lives with his amazing attitude and exemplary approach in serving and taking care of his patients. Dr. Om Shankar is more than 100% justifying the oath taken by Medical Fraternity in its true spirit and is not only serving the mankind but is also in a way serving the entire Medical fraternity with a commendable approach towards medical profession. It is a matter of privilege for both residents of Banaras and Banaras Hindu University to be equipped with such Medical professional.
My brother Sandeep Gosain, 38 years was in Banaras for his professional commitments and was on his way to board a flight to Delhi on 08.04.2013. On his way to Airport he met with a severe Heart Attack and was taken to a private clinic, en-route. The doctor at that clinic advised that my brother be taken to BHU for immediate medical attention as the case was beyond his means and control. My brother was taken by his colleagues to BHU and after reaching there a mad rush of people just like in Mahakumbh was witnessed and colleagues of my brother started regretting their decision of visiting BHU but since it was a severe heart attack and time was running out it was unanimously decided that first a medical relief is obtained and after being stable he can be shifted to a better medical facility in Delhi or a bigger private hospital for fine treatment.
Anticipating ahead a grilling and tiring time of dealing with government employees the mission to save life of my brother was started by his colleagues at BHU, but to their shock they sailed through the entire process in about 10 minutes from emergency to ICU and then in the hands of Dr. Om Shankar, unbelievable. Myself, Sanjay Gosain a government employee with Municipal Corporation of Delhi was informed by the colleagues of my brother on 08.04.2013 about the condition and treatment being given at a BHU, a government organization in Varanasi. I being in Delhi was immensely worried and asked them to provide him the best medical aid in Varanasi at some private hospital but they were reluctant to shift him in a private hospital because locals of Banaras advised them that other than BHU he cannot be saved anywhere else. I boarded next day’s flight to Varanasi, this being my first visit to Varanasi, and reached BHU by 01.30 PM on 09.04.2013 with lot of apprehensions about BHU being a government institution and that too in Banaras and after seeing the condition of my brother and the angina pain that he was going through I decided to shift him to Delhi, being ignorant of the nitty gritties of the medical aid. I was then advised by Dr. Om Shankar that the pulse of my brother was not stable, as it was touching 146 and Blood Pressure was also on very high side & they were trying to stabilize him before performing angiography. The nurses were trying to convince me that my brother was in the safest hands and was getting the best medical treatment in the world, later I realized the best meant not in terms of decorum but in terms of truthfulness, sincerity and dedication of medical fraternity, even though it was hard for me to digest.
I was hoping against the hope and since it was not feasible for me to shift my brother anywhere I decided to go with the flow of wind and processed with angiography in BHU itself. This was performed by Dr. Om Shankar himself and midway the process, I was showed on the Computer screen that the primary artery was 100% choked and immediate medical aid was the need of hour. I was numb, panic-stricken and also in fix as I had no other option but to rely on God and then on Dr. Om Shankar and half-heartedly gave a go ahead for fixing stunts in his artery. The process took about one and a half hour and by the time I was waiting outside I met at least 6 people who were taken care by Dr. Om Shankar and what I realized in that one and a half hour by hearing to those patients and their attendants brought my world upside down and tears in my eyes. Every single patient and his attendant spoke remarkable words about this man and convinced me that my brother was in the best & safest hands in the world.
After the angioplasty was performed, I got to speak to Dr. Om Shankar in person for about 10 minutes and it is because of those 10 minutes (cant be expressed in writing), I am writing this letter to all the authorities. My brother was retained in ICU for 3 days and discharged on 12.04.2013. Today we are back in Delhi and my brother is recovering very fast. Dr Om Shankar even provided his mobile no. & in case of any adversity we were allowed to call him from Delhi and take advice, unbelievable.
I have learned the biggest lesion of my life…Money can’t save life, Doctors can. Despite being financially sound and in the capacity of getting the most expensive medical aid for my brother in best of the hospitals we were circumstantially compelled to get treated at BHU in Varanasi. Today after being treated at BHU by Dr. Om Shankar and his team I feel proud to be an Indian who could avail the best medical aid in the best medical institution of India in the hands of best possible surgeon/doctor for my brother.
Before signing off I would like to say that I was trying to give some money out of my sweet will to certain staff members of BHU which every one politely denied, even Class IV employees stated that Dr. Om Shankar has given clear instructions that none of the staff associated under him shall indulge in any such activity of accepting money or rewards and they feel proud that they are working under such a dignified man. Despite taking my brother out of Banarus Hindu Univeristy - Alive, Hale and Hearty----I left in tears. Trust me even while writing this letter tears are in my eyes for sincerity, dedication and true spirit of Dr. Om Shankar.
Being a common man and not in the capacity of facilitating Dr. Om Shankar on any platform, I take pride in declaring this gentleman as pearl in the Ocean of BHU. Wish if all other government hospitals in India had at least one Dr. Om Shankar, the medical aids in India would be an example for the whole world to witness.
I once again take pride in thanking Dr Om Shankar and his entire team for disposing their duties with sincerity, dedication, truthfulness & for being sublime without any prejudice to caste, creed, religion or social status of patients & above all without any personal interest, gains or hiccups of any sort.
Dr. Om Shankar-an Institution within an Institution--------------for me I have witnesses God -----practically.
Finally, once again I bestow my head in the respect of Dr. Om Shankar and thank BHU on behalf of my entire family for saving the life of my bother in the true spirit of medical profession.
Regards,
SANJAY GOSAIN
